Ingredients

  • Fresh or frozen Wild Caught Gulf Shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • Water
  • Optional: seasonings (such as Old Bay, lemon, garlic, or herbs)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steamer:
  2. Fill a pot with about an inch of water and place a steamer basket or colander inside. The water should not touch the bottom of the basket.
  3. Season the Water:
  4. For added flavor, you can season the water with spices, herbs, or lemon slices.
  5. Bring to a Boil:
  6. Cover the pot and bring the water to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
  7. Add the Shrimp:
  8. Once the water is boiling, add the shrimp to the steamer basket in a single layer.
  9. Steam the Shrimp:
  10. Cover the pot tightly and steam the shrimp for about 4-6 minutes, or until they turn pink and opaque.
  11. Check for Doneness:
  12. Remove one shrimp to check if it’s cooked through. It should be firm and not translucent.
Serve: Carefully remove the steamer basket from the pot using protective gloves as the pot will be hot to the touch. Serve the shrimp hot, with your choice of dipping sauces.

Tips

  • If using frozen shrimp, no need to thaw; just add a minute to the steaming time.
  • Avoid overcooking to keep the shrimp tender.

Enjoy your steamed shrimp!
